2014 Route- DESTINATION BANJUL
The 2014 route is expected to be more spectacular and exciting than any other Budapest-Bamako in previous years. The adventure and racing categories will only split up in Mauritania for two days.
START – BUDAPEST 2014. JANUARY 24th,
We are planning to start the event from Budapest’s Congress Center.
EUROPE
There will be only one stage in Europe. Teams will have to get to Genova by the middle of Day 2 for the 48 hour Mediterranean crossing.
MOROCCO
Spectacular mountain roads, rocky paths across the Atlas and the Sarhro will take teams to the Bani mountains and old Dakar pistes. Morocco will be demanding with its long days and complex stages. The Risani-Tata stage will be especially tough. Expect to start at 4:30AM and drive till 10-11 in the evening. Day 8 will take us through to the Mauritanian border.
MAURITANIA
Instead of the usual 5 days, we’ll spend only 2 and half days in Mauritania, but it will be pure Sahara with golden sand dunes, soft desert paths and fast salt flats. We ll pass through the Banc D’Arguin National Park, a Unesco World Heritage Site and party hard at B2 Beach, named after the rally.
SENEGAL
The rally will visit the historic former colonial capital of Saint Louis, the holy city of Touba and cut through dusty savannah roads to Wassadougou. Here teams can get a glimpse of West Africa’s rich wildlife and village culture.
GAMBIA
For the first time we’ll enter this tiny West African nation situated inside Senegal. We’ll travel on the south banks of the Gambia river. We’ll visit a chimpanzee reservation and the Kiang West National Park before reaching the capital Banjul.
2014 Official Route
Please keep in mind that the stages may change any time based on current security conditions.
IMPORTANT:If you live in Spain, Portugal, Italy and France and don’t want to come to Budapest you may join the rally in Morocco.

After deciding not to enter the Dakar Rally in 2004, I started seeking a kinder, gentler, more liberal way to experience a trans-Saharan rally to West Africa
