Dear Sirs,
This is Youchaou Traore, the Director of the Kalabankoro school. I am writing you this email to express you all my gratitude and that of the whole community of Kalabankoro. I am sorry I could not write earlier because I travelled the next day after your visit to my school. I do not think i could even write you immediately even if I did not travel because i was like shocked by the scope of the event. Nobody did not expect that in my community. We were all stunned and overtaken by the size and the variety of the presents you gave us. It is really unbelievable!!! I have never received such a big amount of things in my life and I did not expect that much. You are great people and I can never forget you. This is was the general feeling of most students and parents the next day when we distributed presents to them. You could hear everywhere "I have never received such presents in my life". It is true especially with these children whose parents are struggling to survive or are dead. Could you imagine that three years ago, when there were art lessons many students from class-room A go to class-room B to borrow color pencils or rulers with their friends? Can you imagine that still in some class-rooms the book ration is one book for four or five students. After reading I have to collect them. I told parents to buy text books for their sons but they could not. It is sad to see sometimes some parents keeping home their son because they could not get a notebook for them. It is really amazing. I still cannot believe it. Today I am so happy and full of pride and commitment because I can see there is room for hope and for a better future even for these children. I had that vision before starting this school but sometimes you get easily caught by discouragement. A few years ago, I felt like giving up because I felt so lonely and abandonned among these children and their parents. I thought I could not make any change in this vast land of poverty, scarcety, despair, illness, deaths and illeteracy as my money was gone but demand for assistance was going high. It was as if the whole world was collapsing around me. But now I regained hope, confidence and happiness along with all these children and their parents. My eyes are full with tears and my heart full of joy and pride. When you are in a certain situation, it is amazing to see people around you, to realize that other people do care about you, love you. You cannot figure out how happy we are. I cannot describe my feeling and the happiness of the community. Thank you very much for these presents. They make a big difference not only in the running of the school, in the life of each individual students but also in their families because they improve the teaching conditions of students. Students have no longer to chare pens, pencils, colors, rulers, etc. and money parents were supposed to use in buying stationaries or these items will be used to buy food for their families, buy drugs for children or send other children to school. This is the most important aspect of your donations.
I really appreciate you gesture and I hope this will be the beginning of a strong partnership between the Rally Budapest-Bamako and my school. This is how we made the distributions.
For students, immediately the next day after the reception of the presents, I mean the 30 of January, we gave each student one pack of color pencils, three pencils, three pens, cookies and sweets, one key holder to each one, crayons and one clothe to each one. Beside, we gave the first three leading students of each class-room a pack or box of the above mentioned items and other gadgets to encourage them and encourage the others to study more.
For parents we distributed among three women's associations (association of widows, association of disadvantaged women, and the micro credit association). We gave them balles of clothings, T-shirts, canned foods, pasta, cookies, some toys and many small things. We are saving the rest for our students and we will distribute them each time they lost their pens or finish them.
Note that we also gave school materials, stationaries and some note books to some neighboring schools. I am quite sure that no one will buy a pen or colors this year. We have more in our warehouse. Thank you very much for your support and love. May God bless you and help you in your noble and humanitarian work. Both mayors and the whole community tell me to greet you. The main talks in the community today is you visit in Kalabankoro with these fancy cars, and thousands of presents. I took some pictures of the distribution in the classrooms I am attaching in this email. Also, next year I will take into consideraation your suggestions and remarks. Thank you very much.
Best regards,
Youchaou |
