Adventure to Fight Malaria With The Budapest-Bamako
Saving Lives, One Net at a Time
Every 30 seconds a child dies from malaria. There are about 500 million cases of malaria each year, and nearly 1 million of those infected die from the disease.
The good news is that malaria is preventable. One of the most cost-effective and simple approaches to combat malaria is the use of insecticide-treated bed nets, which can prevent malaria transmission by 50 percent and up to 90 percent in areas with high coverage rates.
A USD$10 donation to the JCI Nothing But Nets campaign covers the cost of purchasing a long-lasting, insecticide-treated bed net, distributing it, and educating communities on its use.
About JCI Nothing But Nets
In 2008 JCI’s worldwide community of 200,000 young active citizens joined the UN Foundation’s Nothing But Nets campaign. Through JCI Nothing But Nets, members around the world raise awareness about the dangers of malaria and fundraise for the purchase and distribution of insecticide-treated bed nets. JCI members have committed to raising USD$10 million to purchase 1 million bed nets by 2015. www.jci.cc/nothingbutnets
